Low-carbon concrete: replacing cement with an innovative binder from incinerator bottom ash

This project aims to demonstrate a breakthrough climate-change mitigation technology for the concrete industry by replacing cement with a low-carbon binder. The EU is subsidizing the first demonstration plant under the project name LIFE MIBA Filler; project number: LIFE19 CCM/NL/001219.

Timeline 

  • 2021 – 2022 finalize the design of the plant and purchase the equipment 
  • Q3 '22 – Q2 '23 construction period
  • Q2-Q4 '23 commissioning period
  • 2024 demonstration period

Location

The site is located at AVR in Duiven.

Partners 

Blue Phoenix Group will work in collaboration with Kijlstra Bestrating for the implementation of LIFE MIBA Filler, and AVR as the Waste To Energy (WtE) partner. 

Demonstration plant realization phase

The laboratory-scale research has resulted in a process flow diagram which we want to upscale in this MIBA Filler pilot plant (demo phase I) before having a full-scale demonstration plant (demo phase II). Hereto we invite companies to submit their quotations for various equipment and services.   • Q2 ’21 – Q4 ’23 – Procurement
  • Q3 ’22 – Q2 ’23 – Site construction / Plant erection and installation
  • Q2-Q4 ’23 – Plant commissioning
  • 2024 – Demonstration period

If you would like to receive one or more RFQ documents, please fill out the form below. 
This pilot plant will be located outdoors and will be fed with screened bottom ash (<40mm) with a throughput of 1000 kg/h. It will be designed in conformity with Dutch and European legislation and directives.
